Stopping and parking

Parking space

Parking is defined as any parking of a vehicle with or without a driver. However, stopping for less than 3 minutes, stopping to get in or out of the vehicle and loading or unloading goods is not considered parking.

Stopping and parking.

Stopping or parking must not be done in such a place or in such a way as to cause danger or inconvenience to traffic.

Stopping or parking may only be done on the right side of the road in the direction of traffic. On less busy roads and roads with one-way traffic, however, stopping or parking may be done on the left-hand side.

When stopping or parking, the vehicle must be positioned in the longitudinal direction of the road at the outer edge of the roadway or, if possible, outside it.

When stopping or parking in a parking space that is immediately adjacent to the road outside of densely built-up areas, you must, as far as possible, use the parking space on the right-hand side in the direction of traffic.

Stopping or parking is not allowed on bicycle paths, footpaths or sidewalks, medians, turnouts and the like.

Stopping or parking is not allowed:

- On pedestrian crossings or exits from cycle paths, no closer than 5 m. in front of these.

- At intersections or within a distance of 10 m. from the edge of the approaching roadway or, where the roadway and cycle path merge, from the nearest edge of the cycle path. (In parking stalls is always allowed).

- On a railroad crossing or other crossing.

- So the board or signal is covered.

- On a highway bridge, viaduct or tunnel.

- On or near unmanageable hilltops or bends in the road.

- Closer to a staging area than 5 m from the start of the barrier lines.

- Next to a barrier line if the distance between the vehicle and the line is less than 3 m.

- In crawl space.

- At a marked taxi rank.

- At a marked bus stop, no closer than 12 m. on either side of the sign.

Parking is not allowed:

- Closer than 30 m. from railroad crossing.

- Next to entrances and exits to and from properties or gates.

- On the roadway, on main roads outside densely built-up areas.

- Next to another vehicle parked at the edge of the roadway, other than a bicycle, moped or motorcycle without a sidecar, or in such a way that access to the other vehicle is obstructed or that it cannot be driven away.

When you leave the vehicle

When you leave your vehicle, you need to ensure that it cannot start on its own. This can be done by braking with the parking brake or by putting the tractor in gear. A tractor with a diesel engine should never be parked in gear, as the engine may start if the tractor is given a push. You must also take measures to ensure that the vehicle cannot be used by others without authorization. Mandatory anti-theft devices (e.g. steering wheel lock) must be activated.

When it is necessary to prevent or avert danger, you must draw the attention of other road users to the danger by sound or light signal.
During the light switch-on period, you must use a light signal (flashing main beam or dipped beam) instead of a sound signal, unless the danger is imminent.
Use of the horn in other cases is prohibited.

Using turn signals

Drivers must signal before starting off from the edge of the road and before turning and cornering. When changing lanes or other significant changes in the vehicle's position to the side, drivers must signal when it is necessary to guide other traffic. This includes before stopping at the edge of the road.

Hazard warning lights

A tractor's turn signals can be set up as hazard warning lights, which work in such a way that all turn signals work simultaneously. Hazard warning lights must be connected to a control lamp.

Using the hazard flasher

A tractor which, due to a road accident or breakdown, is stationary on the roadway in such a way that it causes danger or inconvenience to traffic, may use hazard warning lights as a warning signal. Any other use of hazard flashers is prohibited. Please note that the use of hazard flashers does not exempt the use of warning triangles.
