B+ and B-E driving licence entitles you to drive

1.B+: Combined transport consisting of a car with a maximum of 8 seats in addition to the driver's seat and a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3500 kg. Connected to a trailer with a permissible total weight of more than 750 kg. However, the total combination of vehicles may have a maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 4250 kg. However, the trailer may not be loaded with more than what is stated in the registration certificate of the towing vehicle (the coupling weight) B+ will be indicated with a code on the driving licence.

2.B/E: A combination of vehicles consisting of a car with a maximum of 8 seats in addition to the driver's seat and a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3500 kg, coupled to a trailer with a permissible gross vehicle weight of more than 750 kg but not more than 3500 kg. So a total of 7000 kg. However, the trailer may not be loaded with more than what is stated in the registration certificate of the towing vehicle (coupling weight). The training for the B+ is the same as for the B/E. The difference between the two options is that the driving lessons and driving test can be completed with a smaller vehicle combination for B+ than for B/E.

If you obtained your driving licence before 1 May 2009, you can drive according to more lenient rules:
If the gross vehicle weight rating of the vehicle and the coupling weight (stated on the vehicle's registration certificate) together do not exceed 3500 kg. The trailer may have a higher permissible gross vehicle weight. BUT the actual gross vehicle weight of the trailer must not exceed the vehicle's coupling weight. This exception only applies when driving in Denmark.

2 examples

For ease of understanding, 2 examples of different vehicle combinations registered for sightless coupling are described here:

1. Permissible total weight: 2800 kg.
2. Permissible total weight: 800 kg.

The car's towing hook may be connected to a trailer with a maximum actual gross vehicle weight of 1200kg.

As the maximum permissible total weight of the car does not exceed 3500 kg, the maximum permissible total weight of the trailer exceeds 750 kg and the total permissible total exceeds 3500 kg, a driving licence of at least B+ is required.

1. Permissible total weight: 2000 kg.
2. Permissible total weight: 2500 kg.

The car's towing hook may be connected to a trailer with a maximum actual gross vehicle weight of 1500kg.

As the maximum permissible total weight of the car does not exceed 3500 kg, the maximum permissible total weight of the trailer exceeds 750 kg and the total permissible total exceeds 4250 kg, a BE licence is required. Remember the actual weight of the trailer must never exceed the weight that the vehicle is authorised to tow.
